KidLit Trivia Night Great Success and Lots of Fun

On Saturday evening, October 24th, seven teams battled for supremacy in the first KidLit Trivia Night Fundraiser held at the Bureau County Metro Center. After almost three hours, when the dust cleared, "The McCutchan Family & Friends" stood victorious. Nipping close at their heals was "Ask Us Anything!"

It was an evening of fun, friendship, food and a little alcohol for those so inclined. A cash bar was provided and soft drinks and food were available for purchase. Bake sale items were made by event volunteers and members of the Prairie Arts Council.

Raffle items included 16 autographed books, an oil change courtesy of Piehl Motors, a Frankenstein centerpiece courtesy of Kirby-Henning Pharmacy, and LuAnn Salz crocheted a Christmas afghan which she donated to the event. Door prizes went to a winner at each table, and a 50/50 raffle rounded out the night's festivities.

"Having my family and their friends there, and then being the winning team, made it really special for me," said Julie McCutchan. The first and second place teams won cash prizes of $200 and $100 respectively which they then generously donated back to KidLit. "That was a kindness I didn't expect but appreciate in ways I can't begin to express," commented LuAnn Salz, coordinator of the event. Salz considered the evening a great success for KidLit. "I had a dollar amount in my mind I wanted to reach, and we exceeded it. I couldn't be happier."

Chad Brokaw, event coordinator and MC said, "I had a blast. Some of the answers, while not correct, were incredibly creative." A favorite from the first half? Q: What is the name of the portable housing used by sheep herders in Central Asia? A: Double-wide. While "yurt" is actually the correct answer, double-wide had people rolling in the aisles. And while other answers were equally creative, they are best kept out of print. And so the evening went...
